Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Think Ribbon ("Think Ribbon", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Think Ribbon website and mobile app (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

If you have questions, contact us at privacy@thinkribbon.com.

1. Who we are

Think Ribbon is a social platform for video game fans, where you can write posts, articles, and reviews, track games in a Quest Log, build collections, follow other gamers, and link your game-store accounts.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account information. When you create an account, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your email address and a username, and manages your password or social sign-in. If you sign in with a third-party login, we receive the basic profile information that provider shares.
  • Profile details. Your display name, bio, avatar, banner, PC specs, and appearance preferences (such as theme and profile background).
  • Content you create. Posts, articles, reviews, comments, ratings, game collections, Quest Log entries, wishlists, lists, and any @mentions you make.
  • Images you upload, which are hosted by our image provider (UploadThing).

Information from linked game accounts

When you choose to connect a game-store account (such as Steam, GOG, or Epic Games), we receive and store, depending on the platform:

  • Your platform display name / persona and account identifier, used to show a badge on your profile and to identify the link.
  • For stores that support library import (Steam and GOG), your owned-games library, and where available your playtime, so we can match games to our catalog and add the ones you select to your collection.
  • For stores that use OAuth (such as GOG and Epic Games), we securely store the access and refresh tokens needed to act on your behalf. These tokens are kept server-side only, are never shared with other users or shown in the app, and are deleted when you disconnect the account.

You can disconnect any linked account at any time from your profile settings, and you control whether each linked account is shown publicly.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage and device data, such as pages visited, approximate visitor counts, and browser or device type, used for analytics and diagnostics.
  • Cookies and local storage, used to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as your selected theme.

Game catalog data

Information about games (titles, cover art, release dates, genres, and similar metadata) comes from IGDB and is not your personal information.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the Service, including your profile, feed, collections, and Quest Log;
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure;
  • Import and synchronize your linked game libraries when you request it;
  • Send notifications you have opted into (for example, @mentions or wishlist release reminders);
  • Understand how the Service is used and improve it;
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security issues; and
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

4. How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below.

  • Publicly, by design. Your profile and the content you publish (posts, articles, reviews, comments, collections, and connected-account badges you choose to make public) are visible to other users and the public. You control the visibility of each connected account.
  • With service providers who process information on our behalf, including: Clerk (authentication), Convex (database and backend), UploadThing (image hosting), our hosting and content-delivery providers, and IGDB / Twitch (game catalog data).
  • With game stores you link, such as Steam, GOG, and Epic Games, solely to read the information described in Section 2 and only after you authorize it.
  • For legal reasons, when required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Think Ribbon, our users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you where required.

5. Third-party platforms

Linking a Steam, GOG, or Epic Games account is also governed by that platform's own privacy policy and terms, in addition to this one. We access only the information described above, and only after you grant permission.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete content or disconnect a linked account, we promptly remove the associated data (including stored tokens). If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, or maintain routine backups. Unused uploaded files are removed automatically.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example, in the EEA, the UK, or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can also:

  • Disconnect any linked game-store account at any time in your settings;
  • Manage your notification preferences; and
  • Delete your account from your settings.

To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls or contact us at privacy@thinkribbon.com. We will respond as required by applicable law.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and server-side storage of credentials and tokens. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and continually improve our safeguards.

10. International data transfers

We and our service providers may process and store your information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above. If the changes are significant, we may also notify you within the Service.

12. Contact us

If you have questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your information, contact us at privacy@thinkribbon.com.
